Comment:  Type: DaycareAbout the facility: Has outdoor space, Provides mealsReview: We love Happy Baby! Our daughter started when she was nine months old, and we were very anxious about starting daycare. I was amazed at how quickly we all adapted and how comfortable we felt leaving her. The staff has stayed consistent over the 10 months she's been there so far, and they are loving and attentive. They are engaged with her and have been flexible with us. They have no problem with cloth diapers and responded quickly and responsibly when our daughter was diagnosed with a food allergy. They have a great outdoor space, so we love that our daughter gets a lot of outdoor time. In the summer months, they also change the kids into bathing suits to play in the water; I'm really impressed that they're willing to do all that clothes-changing (plus sunblock for everyone!). We've had such a good experience there.

Comment:  Type: PreschoolAbout the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Has early morning hours, Provides mealsReview: Happy Baby Daycare is a daycare, but I also think that it is the equivalent of a preschool environment for kids 2 and above. I love that it is a very supportive, loving space. There is good light, the kids make a ton of art and use it to decorate the walls, and they go outside almost every day. There are also lessons-- Spanish, music, movement, cooking, yoga, etc and I think that it is a great variety of activities. The teachers have been there the entire time my child has been downstairs, and they have done a great job with pottytraining. I believe that each child is treated like an individual, and I'm very happy with HBDC. It is ideal if you're a working parent too as it is 8-6 coverage, all the meals are provided, and they keep it interesting for the kids. There are just a handful of holidays off, and there is just one summer week off per year for vacation (that you don't pay for).

Comment:  Program: Both infant and toddler program Age: 2-3 years Review: Our daughter has been at Happy Baby since she was 6 months old, starting in the infant room and transitioning to the toddler room at about 15 months and we could not be happier with the program and the staff. It was hard sending our daughter to daycare after such a long maternity leave, but Izabela, the director and the staff were very warm and understanding and the transition went really smoothly. They were great about following instructions about our baby's routines but were also helpful in establishing new and better habits without being pushy (i.e. getting her on a more regular nap schedule and teaching her how to hold a bottle on her own.) It was such a relief as a new parent having a place where I knew our daughter would be comfortable and loved. The teachers Izabela hires genuinely care about the children and our daughter has really bonded with all of them. It also helps that there is almost no staff turnover. Our daughter has been in two classrooms for a total of almost two years, and there has only been one staff change during that entire time. It's clear that the people who work there enjoy their jobs, which was really important to us. There's a smaller balcony deck play area for the babies, and a nice big yard for the toddlers, with sprinklers and water play during the summer. They also have a music teacher who comes once a week, who our daughter really loves. The provided food is pretty basic, but mostly organic and healthy. We were really pleased to have that part taken care of for us after our daughter turned one. Another nice touch that I don't think all daycares do - they throw a really great holiday party every year in a big space with a band, food and presents for the kids. All in all, it's a really wonderful place. We'd absolutely send a second baby there.

She tells us she loves Happy Baby Daycare. She is happy to go every day, has made friends and has good relationships with the teachers. The teachers are nurturing and fun and seem to have a really good understanding of each individual child. The curriculum is great and includes music, exercise, dance, lots of free play time, stories and crafts Breakfast, lunch and snack are provided When our daughter transitioned from baby to toddler room they ran a gradual transition program which helped somewhat, though she still found it a difficult transition. We get informal feedback from staff about our daughter's progress. In the baby room they would note her feeding, sleeping and diaper changes in written form. However for the toddler program there are have been no written reports or feedback on progress. The daycare director Iza is wonderful and quite responsive to suggestions. A little more formal communication with parents would sometimes be helpful as there have sometimes been policy changes or things that we have not felt completely informed about but that does little to diminish our enthusiasm for the daycare.Would you recommend? Comment:  Length of time: 5 days/week Child’s Age: < 1 yearType of facility: Privately run daycare/preschool with multiple classes and teachersREVIEW: I think that Happy Baby daycare is terrific. I visited a lot of daycares before picking this one, and I initially asked a mom who was leaving outside of it if she was happy with the care there, and she told me to go for it and that they "just love babies." It is true! The staff is very warm and loving to the little ones (my son started at 3 months), and I never worried about him during the day-- even at the beginning. It is clean and airy there, and the toys/books/bouncers, etc are all organized. My son is often ready to jump out of the ergo to start playing in the morning, and I love that they have outdoor space for the kids to get fresh air every day. The babies and younger kids are upstairs, and then they move downstairs when they are walking and talking. (Izabela-- the owner of the daycare-- has her own child there too). Whenever I've asked them if they can work on something with him (e.g. tummy time, switching # of naps, eating finger foods, etc), they have been receptive. You get a little daily report card with naps, feeding info, and bathroom info, but they'll also let you know if anything else comes up. I think there is a waiting list right now, but it is definitely worth getting on it if you are pregnant.Would you recommend? Highly recommendWould you send your child again? Absolutely

Comment:  Program: Downstairs toddler program Length of Time: Full, 5days/week Child's Age: 1-2 years Review: My son has been here since he was 11 weeks and has fully thrived in Izabela's organized and joyful environment. We were thrilled with the upstairs program and are just as happy downstairs. The teachers are knowledgeable, kind and have a sense of humor when my son is loony :). They incorporate a morning meeting, Spanish, art and music among many other things. They provide meals an snacks. I really have nothing negative to say - when I've had a concern (is my son sleeping enough?) they are warm, empathetic, and always come up with a plan for me. I really really adore everyone there Recommend (Hi/Rec/DoNot) Highly recommend Would you send your child again? Absolutely

Comment:  Length of Time: Full time Child's Age: 1-2 years2-3 years3-4 years Review: My daughter has been at Happy Baby since 3 months old. The daycare head, Izabela, is wonderful, warm, organized, responsive and friendly. The program is varied, nurturing and stimulating. For example the kids learn Spanish (even flashcards in the infant room!), have a music teacher come in, do dancing, exercise and crafts and get to play outside. They get lots of book and story time. The food (for older kids) is straightforward but they use many organic ingredients and are very responsive to special dietary needs The teachers are wonderful and there has been pretty much no turnover in the 2 years we have used the daycare. The staff are friendly, nurturing, creative, smart and happy. We had a difficult transition to the toddler room as my daughter was very attached to the infant room staff and the change in routine was hard. They did a slow transition, taking her down for part of the day, but she was still very upset in the morning when we started taking her to the toddler room full time. The staff were caring, and came up with lots of ways to help her settle in and gave us great feedback during the transition. She settled well into her new situation with their help. I would not hesitate to recommend happy baby to anyone with an infant or toddler in the neighborhood. My daughter seems happy and well adjusted there and talks constantly about her friends there and the staff. Recommend (Hi/Rec/DoNot) Highly recommend Would you send your child again? Absolutely

Her staff is so warm and gentle and handle the babies so well. The play areas and napping rooms are always kept very clean and inviting. Positivity and loving arms are so important at this age—as is a stimulating and enriching environment to grow and thrive. The toys, vibes and set up of the day at Happy Baby have really helped my son do well during his transition from nanny to daycare and have also given him a good foundation to do well at home. The daycare's flexible yet "routine" way of feeding, playing and handling the infants has worked very well for us. I'm so thankful for Happy Baby and as a new mom, appreciate the confidence hard work the staff gives in my child's daily wellbeing.Do you recommend? (Hi/Rec/DoNot) Highly recommend

Izabela, who runs it, is full of energy and is wonderful with the children. She strikes the perfect balance between flexibility and orderliness. From the beginning, she has been attentive to our child's needs and communicated well about his moods, needs and behavior. The rooms are always clean and orderly and the toys don't look old or worn out (as I saw at other daycares when I was first looking for one). They have a lovely outdoor space. My son has been attending 2-3 days/week since he was six months old (he's now about a year). He is in a fabulous mood every time I pick him up, despite sometimes being a little weepy when we leave him (it's usually his naptime so I chalk it up to tiredness). The other women Izabela has hired are very consistent and responsible and warm. I can drop in anytime, which I appreciate. Placing my son in this daycare has been a wonderful experience, which has helped him to socialize and make progress on many fronts.Do you recommend? (Hi/Rec/DoNot) Highly recommend

THANK YOU! Even more importantly, when we were sleep training our son, they were willing to try letting him fall asleep on his own and this helped us with the sleeping (he now doesn't cry much for naps there either ... whew). -Everyone is kind and caring about the children -When they didn't follow an expectation I had set out (i.e. don't feed him after 4pm when he was 3-4mos old so I could nurse him at 6pm), they very clearly communicated to me what they didn't follow and why ("he ate before his nap and then slept two hours so even though it was 4:30 we decided to feed him or he would've gone 4 hours without eating") - which I totally appreciate! I want to make sure they're empowered to do what's best by my son! -They've truly made a beautiful space since we first visited in January of this year! Colorful, clean, neat, organized, so many toys my son doesn't have at home that he gets to play with there!Do you recommend? (Hi/Rec/DoNot) Highly recommend

Comment:  My now 10mo has been there since she was 3mo. The program director/owner Izabella made a very strong impression on us when she transitioned my first born into the daycare setting (back when she was still a teacher.) I was very nervous about starting my second born at just 3mos but trusted Izabella and have not regretted our decision. The caregivers she has on staff are loving and attentive and have accommodated all of our ever-changing diet and sleep needs. My little one is always smiling at drop off which is key in my book. (On my recent pre-k tours one parent coordinator told me to look for happy kids - I think the same hold true here!)

Comment:  I can't say enough good things about Happy Baby and its owner Izabela. I've had my daughter there part time since it opened in January. I selected it, because many of my neighbors in my building send their kids to Regina's and Izabela was their favorite provider there, so when she decided to open up her own daycare, they all highly recommended I check it out for my daughter.Although my daughter has a hard time separating from me in the morning, she is always happy and clearly having fun when I pick her up. All of the women Izabela has hired have been sweet and fantastic. They all seem to really care about the kids and are so great with them. They give great daily reports on what the kids ate, how long they napped, bowel movements, etc. My daughter takes better naps and eats better when she's there than at home.My daughter is almost two and is starting a preschool coop soon, so we've taken her out and may put her back in part time once the new floor opens, depending on schedules.August 2012

They all knew what worked and didn't work for him and helped me adjust him to solids in a seamless manner. They are also very flexible. I had to drop my son off by 730 am and at times when I was a few minutes late in picking up she was really cool about it too.August 2012
