Comment:  I second the recommendation for Dr Philippa Gordon. She has a second practice in Cobble Hill, by the way. She's been our pediatrician for over 20 years, babyhood to emerging adulthood. She's an expert diagnostician, a caring person and extremely funny, to boot ...She's been there for our family in emergencies and saved us in a critical situation that was miss diagnosed and made worse by specialists. You couldn't ask for a better pediatrician.

Comment:  Philippa Gordon and Associates Review: I love Dr Gordon's office. They are thorough, thoughtful, and caring. Our baby came home from the hospital with some minor complications and a host of issues to be followed up on, and they did a great job helping us find the right specialists, figure out what had to happen when, and handle annoying logistical issues such as referrals. They jumped on the phone with me several times to talk through options and scheduled us for special visits to follow up when necessary. I've seen and felt very comfortable with Dr. Gordon, Dr. Edghill, and Dr. Copenhaver. I also find their front desk staff extremely friendly and responsive. The only time I felt a bit less confident was when we saw Dr. Reddy, who generally works out of their Cobble Hill office; our visit with her felt a bit rushed and cursory, which I probably only noticed because it was so the opposite of our experience in general. Insurance: Yes. Filing claims has been totally painless and co-pays have ended up quite low.Based on a October2015 birth

Comment:  Review: We are very happy with Dr Gordon's practice. We started at Tribeca and were not happy. The doctors were lovely, but they were terrible at listening, and we always felt rushed. The administrative staff, while nice, was constantly losing appointments and paperwork. Dr Gordon's practice is the opposite. The whole experience feels relaxed but well run. The doctors listen before speaking and have lots of on-point suggestions. There were no issues with lost appointments or paperwork. They squeezed us in immediately for sick visits and the doctors (not remote nurses!) always call back promptly to answer questions. Insurance: They take my new insurance (GHI), which is much-hated, and I haven't had any issues with claims or reimbursements.Based on a January 2015 birth

Comment:  Just adding a shout out for Dr. Gordon. We switched from another local practice after horrible waits and very rude staff. She has been amazing - worried when necessary (my son had a bladder infection which can be caused by a more serious condition) but not alarmist when not necessary (he is very skinny). She also picks up the phone after hours/calls back very quickly - we had a stomach bug this past week and talked to her about 6 times over the NYE weekend at all hours and she called in anti-nausea medicine to stop his vomiting. Very common sense, usually short waits, nice staff, we love her and her colleagues.

Comment:  We've been very happy with Dr. Gordon's practice. Not exactly holistic, but both of the doctors we've seen there (Dr. Gordon and Dr. Ravendhran) have been very respectful of any "alternative-ish" decisions we've made i.e. our home birth, letting our midwife do our daughter's heel prick (she combined it with a checkup on me so was able to soak the heel for longer so it was less painful), delaying the Hep B vaccine, not giving iron supplements (although we did test her iron levels at 1 year), etc. They've never done the "I'm a doctor so I know best and will guilt/bully you into agreeing with me" thing. Other than the Hep B Vaccine, we stuck to the standard vaccine schedule, but I know they will accomodate alternate schedules, although I imagine they prefer not to. And while Dr. Gordon has given me fantastic advice about sleep when I've asked for it, they're not pushy about sleep training or any particular philosophy. When my daughter got eczema last winter, Dr. Ravendhran gave me a whole bunch of options to try before resorting to steroid cream, one of which worked.I also really appreciate how non-alarmist they are. My daughter had a little jaundice after she was born, which my midwife was worried about, but Dr. Gordon looked at her and said, "Let's give it a few days." (It cleared up beautifully on its own.) My daughter's also small -- tall but very skinny, like my husband -- and I'm always worrying about weight gain and a little nervous before every checkup (especially before she weaned), but Dr. Gordon's always like, "She looks great! As long as she keeps gaining..." You can kind of tell that she's been doing this a long time - she just gives great, practical advice and has a very sane perspective on things. For what it's worth, my friend, who's been trekking to the Continnum Center in Manhattan (at 27th street) since her 16-month-old was born because she really wanted a holistic approach, has been comparing notes with me and is actually thinking of switching to Dr. Gordon's practice.September 2012

We have been taking our twin girls since they were 10 months (they are 2.5yrs now) Dr. Gordon has reduced her hours or at least we do not see her as much, we miss her because she is extremely good with our girls and so experienced. We have recommended them to several friends, all of whom are really pleased as well. They also have another associate, Dr. Nowell, with whom we have not interacted yet, but we are really delighted with the practice in general. I really trust them.We just couldn't be happier with them. They are always available, are not alarmist, are more knowledgeable than any doctor I've ever encountered before, and are kind and just simply love children (and parents!). They have a practical approach to everything, but can explain things intellectually and also relate emotionally. It's a rare mix. I hope they bring you the same joy they bring us!(May 2012)

Comment:  We have been with Dr. Gordon since our son was born in May of 2011. We met with her at our first visit, when our baby was only a few days old. She is experienced, knowledgeable, pleasant, reassuring and calm. She made us--sleep-deprived, insecure, first-time parents--leave her office feeling so much better and confident about our parenting. And it has been the case ever since. Her soothing style works wonders on babies. At that first visit, our son was crying non-stop. She held him, did this rocking motion with him, and he calmed down immediately. When I needed her to call me back, she always does it promptly and answers all my questions. We highly recommend her.

Comment:  (Review Feb.2011) We adore Dr. Gordon, and have seen her since our 5 year old was 2 days old. Specific examples, aside for the general comment that we absolutely trust her, clinically: she was FANTASTIC at distracting our daughter when she was a baby for shots - more a relief for me! Most recently, at her 4 year visit shots Dr. Gordon made sure to give the 2 accompanying baby dolls band aids too. Which they wear to this day. And, for the endless bouts of strep throat, she calls the swabs "bunny paws" - instantly fascinating and distracting my daughter, who HATED getting cultured. We still joke about it. I remember calling in the middle of the night for ear pain (and, to be clear - I rarely called for such things, but it was really, really bad) and she didn't make me feel like I was inappropriately calling, even at 2am, and helped me provide relief until the am. Finally, she was wise counsel when we needed our daughter's tonsils/adenoids removed for apnea - she met with us without her to discuss, and was very calming. INSURANCE: Oxford - it's been fine

Comment:  (Review Feb.2011) I first met with Dr. Gordon when I was pregnant and have been bringing my child to her for the past 3.5 year. I consistently find her warm, funny and low-key at the same time that she provides good, solid, non-alarmist care. She is always able to talk/joke my daughter out of a crying jag and regularly makes herself available to me via phone. While in preschool, my daughter was identified as needing PT, OT and in-school support because of physical lags. I have often wondered if the lags could have been identified much earlier by Gordon/Glaser and how much their rushed, packed practice contributed to them just noticing less about my daughter's development. I do think about switching practices but love Gordon's manner and doubt that other practices in Brooklyn would be less rushed and potentially distracted. INSURANCE: United Health Care. Gordon accepts the insurance and we have had no problems with claims.

Comment:  Delay Vaccines? I don't know (Review Feb.2011) We visited Dr. Gordon before I gave birth and were completely sold by her calm but knowledgeable practice technique. We were particularly pleased when asking her about parenting philosophies to hear that hers mirrored ours. Generally we think that most parenting philosophies are over-rated - lover your kid, know your kid, read about the science and the options, and then do what is best for your family. She was very reassuring not to get too caught up in the pressures of some neighborhood trends. That said, once I gave birth, she was very encouraging about breastfeeding. Her office staff was always very quick and friendly. Unfortunately, our insurance changed after eight months and so we only had a limited experience with her. INSURANCE: At the time I had Cigna insurance and it was very easy to deal with claims. I'll also note that when I needed to change doctors due to a new insurance, the office got all the paperwork necessary for the transfer within an hour.
