Emergency Rooms - Urgent Care Centers

When to use an ER: Go to an ER when you have a life or limb-threatening condition.

When to use an Urgent Care Center: Go to an urgent care center when your condition is NON life or limb-threatening, but must be dealt with in a timely manner.

It's important to consider using a facility where your doctor has privileges, for several reasons. If you or your child is admitted, your doctor can followup, supervise his care and advocate for you with the hospital administration when necessary.

Also consider the distance. If you or your child is admitted, you'll have to get transportation to and from the hospital for visits, which can be costly and difficult to organize.
