Comment:   My kids have been attending Piper Theater's summer camp for four years, and it's always a high point of our summer. The Starlings program is exceptional - the staff are warm, nurturing, fun, and rigorous, so that the kids have a really enjoyable summer experience which also results in a really impressive culminating performance. My daughter did Twelfth Night last summer and I was totally wowed by the proficiency those seven and eight years olds seemed to have with Shakespearean language - this summer, she's doing King Lear. They seemed to really understand the story and script and they owned it, which was so empowering. My daughter had a pretty big bout of stage fright last summer, and the staff was so incredibly supportive of her, working with her so that she felt comfortable but also pushing her so that she could fully participate.Last summer my son, who is in middle school, graduated to Piper's Performance Theater Workshop and the level of rigor increased to match the students' increased maturity. When I saw his performance - a world premiere of an original script from Romania -- I was floored. I was a undergrad theater major and the production rivaled plays I watched and performed in at college - a truly collaborative ensemble piece of really thoughtful theater. More than anything though, the kids have fun, and are supported creatively. My kids look forward to participating in Piper every summer, and I am sure that in a few years when my son's too old to perform, he'll be a Piper counselor.

Comment:  Program: GodspellAge of Child: 12Likes: She got to do the thing she loves the most- perform in a full-scale musical. She also loved the feeling of independence while walking to and from camp alone as well as meeting new friends and going to lunch with them every day on 5th Avenue. What would you change? I can't think of a thing. It was an awesome experience.Would you send your child(ren) again? YesDo you recommend? Highly recommendDo you have any other information to add? My daughter really grew by leaps and bounds this summer. The kids and counselors/teachers at the camp really made it feel like one big family and it allowed her to gain confidence and learn new things while having a blast.

This was her second year going and she plans to attend the longer session next year. What would you change? Sometimes the space was too crowded for the number of campers she thought. Comment:  I just wanted to offer an endorsement for this wonderful kids' theater program. Our son spent several years with the Piper program and always had an amazing experience. As he got older, he much preferred Piper to leaving Brooklyn for sleepaway camp. The program is very challenging and fun, while allowing the kids to enjoy a summer relaxing in the 'hood. If your child is interested in theatre, this is a truly amazing experience for them to try.
